Faculty Advisory Compensation Team

To replace the UMD Committee on the Economic Status of the Faculty (CESF) with a new Faculty Advisory Compensation Team (FACT), to represent the Dearborn faculties' salary concerns to the Chancellor.

Composition

The committee will be composed of six faculty members of senatorial rank representing each academic unit. Member terms will be staggered to insure continuing experience on the team. Vacancies on the team will be filled by the Faculty Senate. One or more members of the team will be UMD Faculty Senators and serve as a liaison to the Senate. Another member or members of FACT will be appointed by the Senate to the Chancellorís University Budget Committee. Finally, one member will be nominated by the team and appointed by SACUA to the university-wide Committee on the Economic Status of the Faculty. In the event that the SACUA committee meetings conflict with UMD team or Senate meetings a substitute delegate to the SACUA CESF will be nominated by the UMD Faculty Senate.

Charge

The team shall concern itself with budgetary matters as they pertain to the economic status of the senatorial rank faculty (including research and clinical faculty), librarians, and curators. The team may also address matters related to morale such as working conditions and equity issues. The team shall have access to all pertinent institutional documents and may include administrator data in annual reports. The team will make its annual report in a timely fashion so that it will be available to the Chancellor and the Budget Committee before final budgetary decisions are made. University Budget Committee

Chancellor Little formed this committee in the fall of 2000 to provide an effective channel through which all campus constituencies can have significant and valuable input into the budget process, can receive timely information about the process, and can provide advice, analysis, and assessment throughout the process. The committee includes six faculty members, three staff members and three students, in addition to the provost and the vice chancellor for business affairs, and will meet with the chancellor and other senior officers and deans as appropriate. It is expected that meetings will take place once or twice a month through the academic year. Five of the faculty members of the University Budget Committee are designated through appointment by the Faculty Senate Council, with two members from the College of Arts, Sciences & Letters and one each from the College of Education, Health, and Human Services, the College of Business, and the College of Engineering & Computer Science. The sixth member is to be elected by the faculty at large. Nominators must be members of the Faculty Congress, and nominees must be Faculty Senate eligible. This means that any member of the governing faculty, or professional librarian or curator shall be eligible for this seat. All Faculty Congress members are eligible to vote. Faculty members holding administrative appointments of more than 50% are ineligible to serve as elected faculty representatives.
